Squishy Feet

My sneakers were soaked...

This pic was taken on a Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago in Aoshima, Miyazaki.

The evening before, I attended a festival there, and later went to 3 different bars and got fucked up. I crashed at a friend’s house in Aoshima. That night there was a big thunderstorm. Had coffee in the morning and my friend and his family decided to go for a surf.

I’m Canadian. I love the ocean, but I don’t surf. Their house is near the train station, so I’m gonna cruise back into town. We step outside, and I realize my sneakers have been out all night. They’re literally filled with water. “OK,” I think, “the train station is just over there.”

I dump the water out of my Vans and squish foot it to the station, where I find out the trains are cancelled because of the storm. Fuck.

Dry-footed I could probably have walked home (about 10k), but with the wet foot, no way. I end up getting a $50 taxi into town. And a couple days later, I got Covid.
